History
As an inhabitant of the Astral World, the Skull Knight can appear and disappear whenever he pleases. He was one of the previous hosts of the Berserk Armor, but gave it up. He is well acquainted with the witch Flora: in the Skull Knight’s meeting scene with Flora, they chat like old friends. Nosferatu Zodd is an old enemy of the Skull Knight, and they have clashed many times in battles over the previous centuries. Perhaps the Skull Knight and King Geyserich, who ruled Midland a thousand years ago, are the same person: at least, Geyserich also wore a skull-shaped helmet, though more ornate. The spikes on the Skull Knight’s helmet resemble a crown, and Slann addressed the Skull Knight as “your majesty. It was he who saved Gatz and Casca, during the “blackout.”
He is known to have had a close relationship with the sorceress Flora, and was the wielder of the Berserk Armor. In the past he was Emperor Geyserich, the founder of Midland. A thousand years before the events of the manga, Geiserich united the warring barbarian tribes and founded an empire that stretched across the continent. The city of Wyndham and the ancient Tower of Resurrection stand on the ruins of Heiserich’s former capital, which disappeared after the Eclipse a thousand years ago.
