This is the article on the character Naruto Uzumaki. For the manga and anime series Naruto, head to Naruto. For other uses, see Naruto (disambiguation).
Naruto Uzumaki (うずまき ナルト Uzumaki Naruto) is the main character in the Naruto manga, by Masashi Kishimoto.

He was voiced by Junko Takeuchi in the anime series. The character was ranked #6 on IGN’s list of the 25 best anime characters in 2009.

In an interview with the American edition of Shonen Jump, the author stated that the situations Naruto gets into (especially in Ninja Academy) sometimes resemble the ones that happened to him in his childhood: in the manga he depicts his own childhood experiences as well.

Personality

Naruto is characterized as boisterous, rambunctious, and unorthodox, much like Senju Hashirama. He inherited his mother’s verbal manner, as he ends his sentences with the expression “Dattebayo!” (だってばよ! ), being overly emotional. Although he has a positive attitude toward rivalry and is not afraid to ask for help, Naruto is relatively naive, simple, and slow to grasp principles or situations. He usually needs a simplistic analogy to understand explanations, and sometimes he is even able to forget certain things he himself noted earlier when he is in an emotional state. Naruto is aware of his shortcomings and admits that he acts decisively to hide his embarrassment and frustration about them. Despite his naivete, Naruto can be quite perceptive, picking up on things that others miss and remembering information casually gained from conversation.

Growing up as an orphan, having endured years of hatred and social isolation from the people of Konoha, Naruto has undergone certain changes to his character: he is inattentive to formalities and social statuses, addressing some people with nicknames instead of WP. png respectful suffixes, though by the time he reached a more mature age Naruto had partially overcome this trait, as he stopped calling Lee “fat-brow” and began addressing him by his first name, and calling Killer B by his first name instead of “octopus”. He also developed specific food preferences, with ramen being and still being his favorite dish. In addition, Naruto has developed a perverted nature, manifesting itself by creating Oiroke no Jutsu and peeping at girls in the baths. For a long time Naruto did not understand the true meaning of the word “love” and thought that loving and being loved by someone and ramen were the same thing. Despite his quirks and the criticism they provoked, Naruto is said to have a personality that draws others to him, inspiring friendship and loyalty through sincere kindness that can change a person’s worldview. In this way, he can acquire the strong bonds he lacked as a child. Rikudo Sennin has identified Naruto’s benevolence as his special gift for ridding Kurama of his hatred. Naruto deeply cherishes these bonds and will go to any lengths to protect those closest to him, as best exemplified by Sasuke when he left the village. During Naruto’s stay with Shinjitsu no Taki, it was revealed that part of Naruto hated the villagers who despised him in the past, but then reconsidered their attitude towards him just because he saved them during Paine’s attack. This belief allowed Kurama to manipulate Naruto’s rage until he confronted him and learned to let go of past grievances, becoming stronger than ever.

Another notable trait of Naruto’s personality is his thirst for recognition. Thus, his bullying antics in the village were aimed at drawing attention from other people so that they would notice or at least tell him off. For this reason, from a young age, Naruto set out to become the Hokage of Konoha, the epitome of recognition and respect for all villagers. Realizing that he had a long and difficult road ahead of him to achieve his cherished dream, Naruto developed his own nindo of staying true to his words. This lifelong philosophy served as the cornerstone of Naruto’s great self-confidence. He began to believe in the possibility of achieving any goal through enough hard work and persistence, no matter how great the obstacle or how long it would take to overcome it. The belief extended to many aspects of his life outside of combat, such as in the promise he made to Sakura to bring Sasuke back to Konoha. Over time, his dream of becoming Hokage evolved from a desire for recognition to a goal to help and protect those close to him, which Tobi attributed to Hee no Ishi. Naruto’s Nindo is based on the understanding that shinobi must endure any hardship. His belief in hard work and perseverance led Naruto to hate people who insincerely labeled themselves to achieve their goals, causing him to disqualify his son from Chunin Shiken for using the banned Kagaku Ningu rules, and to express his disgust with Absenceuki Momoshiki and Kinshiki because of their desire to create chakra fruit so as not to make an effort to improve themselves.

After the death of his mentor Jiraiya, a conversation with his father Minato, and the telling of Nagato’s tragic story, Naruto begins to understand the cycle of endless hatred and vows to break it in order to bring peace to shinobi land. To this end, he took part in the Fourth World Ninja War not only to protect his friends, but also to bear the burden of eradicating the hatred of the world alone. Nevertheless, as he meets the revived Uchiha Itachi, Naruto realizes that he cannot handle everything alone, and that he must let his friends support him and fight alongside them. When he achieves this at the climax of the war, his fighting spirit inspires the Shinobi Alliance to join him and keep fighting to end the war, resulting in him becoming a role model in the eyes of many people who begin to admire him and peer in every way.

Naruto first met Hyuga Hinata when they were children, after which his open kindness and courage earned her admiration, which later turned into love. For his part, Naruto paid no attention to Hinata’s feelings for him and even considered her “strange” due to the girl’s embarrassment around him. However, things changed during Chunin Shiken in Part 1, when they started interacting and supporting each other more often, causing Naruto to fall in love with her as a friend. In the second part, when Hinata put her life on the line to save Naruto, he, in turn, began to view her as a strong kunoichi, even though he lost his tongue when she confessed her love for him. Naruto subconsciously loved Hinata, but couldn’t realize it for a long time because he kept “fighting” for Sakura, which was another way for him to compete with Sasuke. During the events of The Last, Naruto finally responds to Hinata’s feelings, causing him to become more shy and protective of her, likening his behavior to hers. Realizing that only she has always believed in him and that she has always been there for him, he reciprocates her feelings and expresses his desire to be with her for the rest of his life, to the point where he was willing to start living a healthy lifestyle and eating vegetables, something that other people failed him to do.

As he becomes an adult, Naruto becomes wiser and more mature, though he remains somewhat careless with his suffixes. Although he has finally achieved his dream of becoming Hokage, many of his newfound responsibilities not only wear Naruto down himself, but often deprive him of time with his family, which is especially frustrating for his son Boruto. He admits that this is partly due to the fact that he himself grew up without a father’s love, which greatly hinders his ability to communicate with his children, particularly Boruto. Also, Naruto becomes more responsible because of his duty as both a Hokage and a father. For example, he forbids the use of kota in Chunin Shiken, as it goes against the shinobi’s hard work, resulting in Naruto becoming extremely frustrated with Boruto’s cheating and even taking off his tread in front of the exam audience, after lecturing him. Nevertheless, Naruto is very fond of his family, as he creates Kage Bunshin to help his loved ones when he is busy, protects them in times of danger, spends time with them whenever possible, and is proud of his children’s successes. In fact, he follows Sarutobi Hiruzen’s philosophy that the villagers are one big family to the Hokage, believing that true relationships are built on love rather than coming from blood relations. His refusal to grant his son any special treatment because of their blood relationship, along with his insistence that the young man officially address him as Nanadaima Hokage while in office, is evidence of Naruto’s lack of bias and prejudice. Nevertheless, when confronted by Absenceuki Momoshiki and realizing that his excessive loyalty to the village greatly affects his family’s well-being, Naruto comes to the conclusion that he needs to pay more attention to them. Thus, by accepting more help from others, Naruto is able to see his family more often, restoring the same warm relationship he had with them before he became Hokage.

Appearance

As Jiraiya pointed out, Naruto bears a striking resemblance to his father, Minato, who also had blue eyes and blond, spiky, hedgehog hair. He inherited the shape of his eyes and face from his mother. His most notable feature is the moustache-like markings on both cheeks. During the Fourth Ninja World War, Kato Dan was mistaken for Nawaki due to the significant resemblance of the young men. He was also often teased for his short stature during the first part of the anime and manga, although he became taller than Sakura two and a half years later. Originally, Naruto wore green glasses on his forehead, but he revised his image after becoming Genin.

In the first part, Naruto wore an orange tracksuit, with blue shoulder inserts and a white collar. There was a white tasseled swirl on the left shoulder, and the Uzumaki symbol was displayed on the back. Naruto wore orange pants with an attached shuriken holster above his right knee, and blue shinobi sandals. On his forehead was traditionally a protector with the Konoha emblem sewn into a blue armband. This protector was given to him by Umino Iruka in honor of his graduation from the Academy. Underneath the jacket was a black T-shirt with the fire symbol. In part two, after training with Jiraiya, Naruto’s previous clothes got torn during training. Naruto started wearing a black jacket with orange inserts on the sides, orange pants with a shuriken holster above his right knee, and black sandals. He replaced his old armband with a darker one, with longer ends. Under the jacket Naruto wore a mesh t-shirt. During Paine’s attack on Konoha, Naruto wore a red cloak with a black fire pattern and a large scroll with the key of the Hakke no Fuin Shiki seal behind it.

At the end of the Fourth World Ninja War, Naruto lost his right forearm, which was later replaced with a prosthetic made of Senju Hashirama cells. Two years later, Naruto stretched even further, becoming one of the tallest members of his class, and had his hair noticeably shortened. Instead of a protector, he began wearing a headband with a sewn-in plate with the symbol of Konoha on it. His clothes consisted of: a black jacket with an orange zipper and rolled up sleeves and a few buttons at his neck and belt. On his left arm he wore a red armband with the Uzumaki clan symbol on it. In everyday life, he wore an orange hooded sweater and black and orange pants with sandals. A scarf was tied around his neck. After becoming Hokage, Naruto began to wear clothes reminiscent of his father’s costume: a white cape decorated around the edges with red tongues of flame with kanji on the back of the Nanadime Hokage (七代目火影 , “Seventh Generation Fire Shadow”) from top to bottom, and the front was buttoned up with thin red ropes. Underneath he wore an orange hoodie with black stripes (the color scheme was changed in the Boruto: New Generations Naruto manga), black pants and sandals of the same shade. He occasionally wears the traditional Hokage headdress, having stopped wearing the tread on his forehead.
